The SOS on Punching Power

What are the ingredients to wielding a great punch? are punchers born or can they be manufactured? the answer is yes and yes.

1. intent. if you punch to “destroy” you will be a harder puncher than if you were punching to score.
2. density of fist and hand weight. simply research how a medieval mace works, the mace theory.
3. stance. the wider the legs (to a point) the more power.
4. core rotation. allows you to transfer weight forward.
5. body coordination. certain muscles have to be engaged/coordinated to procure power.
6. proper articulation of the fist. impact has to be made with the correct part of the fist.
7. density of back. upper body weight allows for more power. big legs do not. That’s an old wife’s tale.
8. timing.
9. accuracy.
10. head. the average head weighs 11lbs. putting your head into the punch is the difference between getting hit by a welterweight or middleweight.
(Kind of like the intelligent theory of a heavier glove having more concussive power than a lighter glove. Sorry. Had to do that.)
