Many people are applauding Paul for his performance vs Joshua…
“Joshua was a former World champ…”
“Joshua won the Olympics”
“Jake’s only been boxing 6 years”
Fair enough…
But wait a minuite….
Jake considers himself a pro, he got paid BETTER than a pro, he gotta face the music like a pro….
And frankly, 6 years preparation for a title fight is more than long enough.
George Foreman boxed for less than 2 years before winning Olympic Gold.
Anthony Joshua 5 years before Olympic Gold.
But before applauding Jake… (and he does deserve his flowers here. What he attempted isn’t easy at all.) I’m not sure he did anything unique that any man wouldn’t do for 100 million…
People say, he went 6 rounds with a former champ… Yet you can’t forget, It’s not the same with boxing as it is/may be with other sports.
Boxers are also limited by their past experiences. A younger less experienced/traumatized Joshua would probably blow him away within 1 round…
Jake had the benefit of fighting a Joshua that has been hurt and suffered a traumatic KO.
Another thing … the hardest guys to fight are the guys who
#1 fight in reverse
#2 don’t throw punches.
In that exact order…
So Joshua did the exact perfect thing. Apply subliminal pressure and not reach with his punches so he wouldn’t get countered or nailed by the attempted home run/lucky punch.
The KO punch always reveals itself.
Paul’s camp thought the onus to make the fight was on Joshua…and Joshua reacted with intelligence not ego.
