System of Silk: The Hands

Of the world’s top sports the one attribute that differentiates BOXING from every other MAJOR sport — with the exception of TENNIS and BASKETBALL — is TIMING.… or “RhYTHM” as many love to call it… BUT in boxing, that timing (rhythm) is kept with your HANDS and not with your FEET.

Sure this may go against what you’ve been taught, but no worries, neuroplasticity will allow you to adapt to this truth.

The demands of the hands… the TIMING and ARTICULATION is one of the major reasons why boxing is one of the most difficult (“hardest”) sports you cam participate in/master.

The better the brain/hand communication, the better the boxer. The better the tennis player. The better the basketball player.

If a coach wants to improve their fighter’s performance IMMEDIATELY and effectively, said coach needs to improve the DEXTERITY…the brain-hand communication of his athlete, before the ENDURANCE and AGILITY of the body. Ask yourself, what is the common thread between Ali, Duran, Louis, Marciano, Pep, Sugar Ray Robinson, Roy Jones, Sugar Ray Leonard, Hearns, Pacquiao, Mayweather, Toney…

Wait a minute, I’m not done… Canelo, Usyk, Bivol, Benavidez, Stevenson, Inoue… (Yes their are others on the rise, like Moses Ituama, Jesse Rodriguez…) but the over arching attribute is their ability to throw intelligent and complex combinations. The ability to put their hands where they need to be, exactly when they are supposed to be there.

How different would our world be if not for brain/hand communication?

Our brains literally grow through the use of our hands.

There is no fighter whose main attribute is POWER, or SPEED, or RESILIENCY that dominates this sport. It may help get them there, but it won’t keep them there.

It’s the fighters with Brain-Hand communication that ALWAYS have and always will, dominate this amazing sport we call boxing.
