SAN RAFAEL, CA — If ever there was a fight that you wanted to use “to try and make OR encourage a new boxing fan,” it WAS NOT Saturday’s Deontay Wilder-Derrick Chisora encounter from the UK. First off, both guys were “so shot you can see the bullet holes.”
”RABBIT PUNCHES & THROW DOWNS
Effective early on, Chisora “rattled” the former World champion & 2008 Olympic Bronze Medalist a “few times” before he ran out of gas. Fighting on “fumes” from like the 4th round on, Chisora was “down more times in 36 minutes than a busy prostitute” on a Saturday night.
“REALLY BAD” REF & CRIMINAL JUDGE?
Referee Mark Bates “never really” got control of this match as there was more punching “behind the head” by both guys, but primarily Wilder who lost a point for “pushing” in a fight that was “bad” and not in “any good” way.
JUDGE PHIL EDWARDS CROOK OR INEPT?
After 12 rounds I had it 115-112 for Wilder. Officially, Sean McAvoy’s card read 115-111 & Marcus McConnel saw things 115-113 for Wilder. While 71-year old judge Phil Edwards had it 115-112 for Chisora. Let’s be nice, either he’s inept OR crooked? Doesn’t matter which one, Chisora got beat and any Official that says he didn’t need NEVER be allowed to score a boxing match again.
WILDER “WON’T BE ABLE” TO REGRET
The 2008 Olympic Bronze medalist & ex-heavyweight champion Wilder is 40 and I can see signs of decline in both his in-ring reflexes and diction when speaking. But he and advisor Shelly Finkel will find him “another” pay day all the while ignoring any apparent decline.
MONEY “NO GOOD” IF YOU CAN’T COUNT!
Wilder has made more money “than a sucker could ever spend” and yet he fights on. Without naming anybody, I’ve seen a few “rich boxers” so messed up that “money doesn’t matter” because they don’t have the wherewithal to even appreciate it! Wilder reportedly suffered a “Broken Rib & Hand,” so said UK hero Chisora. Deontay is now 45-4-2 with 43 KOs while the “retiring” Derrick Chisora is 36-14, 23 KOs.
SAM GOODMAN “STEALS” TSYZU SHOW
Looking at 122 lber. Sam Goodman’s low KO % with only 8 stops in 21 wins, I thought his Mexican opponent Rodrigo Ruiz (23-2, 17 KOs) might be “too much” for the determined Aussie. But I dead wrong as the final scores read 118-110, 116-112 & 115-113.
ANOTHER “BAD JUDGE” FOLKS!
While the last two scores were about right, Goodman’s New Wales neighbor Ian Scott’s 10-2 in rounds or 118-110 by points scorecard reeked of unnecessarily “stacking the deck.” Bottom line is Scott didn’t need to and she be “benched” for the hometown score. Sam moves on, Rodrigo is set back.
TIM TSYZU HAS “BATTING PRACTICE”
And if you stayed awake on the East Coast for the Tim Tsyzu-Denis fight you are a true fight fan! With the exception of a cut under Tim’s left eye from an accidental head butt, Tim Tszyu walked Nurja around like a “two-legged dog on a leash.”
BURTA WASN’T MUCH & I’M BEING NICE
Tim needed a “punching bag” type of foe that “couldn’t fight an attempt to get back what in my opinion “was never there.” Like his father Kostya Tsyzu, once Tim “got licked” the kid hasn’t been the same.
WENT 12 WITH GIANT FUNDORA
Tsyzu’s (27-3, 18 KOs) best outing was a SD 12 loss to Sebastian Fundora for the WBC 154 lb. trinket. In the rematch, Tsyzu “surrendered” or quit after the 7th round.
FUTURE FOR TIM? FIND “MORE STIFFS”
Tim is never going to be what he was prior to 3 losses, 2 of which were TKOs to Fundora and ex-IBF killer Bakhram Murtazaliev who flattened him in 3 heats 18 months ago! Scores were 100-88 x 3. To call Denis (20-1, 9 KOs) a “bum” would not be fair…to real bums!
