SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Having watched boxers die in both California (Rico Velasquez) and Nevada (Johnny Montanes), I realize that boxing is extremely dangerous. But to allow a beaten fighter to take shots after he’s beaten, be it for the sake of entertainment or the hope of a Rocky movie-like comeback, is just wrong!
NOT REALLY “COMPETITIVE”
IF not for the exception of 2 right hands that careened off the top & side Daniel Dubois’ head in rounds 1 & 4 that resulted in knockdowns, Fabio Wardley’s “limited skillset” was really the story on the DAZN card from Manchester, UK.
BOTH WERE “DUBIOUS” GOING IN!
Going in people questioned Wardley’s “Lack of Experience” seeing he had NO amateur fights. And at the same time Dubois’ dedication was questioned as he weighed at a career high of 254 lbs.
SHAME ON CORNER & BRITISH OFFICIALS!
And while the referee Howard Foster finally halted matters at :28 of round 11, it was 2, if not 3 rounds tardy. As for Fabio’s corner, fire them all The fighter never wants to stop it, but the corner is supposed to “protect” their charge.
THOUGHT HE MIGHT FALL ON HIS OWN!
In the last 3 rounds, Wardley looked like an unbalanced one-eyed drunk and neither the corner or officials, and that includes a Ringside Doctor intervened!
PEDRO HAS “SEEN THIS BEFORE & OFFERS ADVICE
Fabio Wardley is a somewhat one-dimensional fighter (NEVER threw a single left hook OR 1-2-3 combination all night) with big stones and a heart to match. BUT at 31 his ability has taken him as far as he’s going to go as a professional boxer! Time to count what money he has, while he can count it & walk away! He has hit his “pugilisitic” ceiling!
DANIEL DUBOIS “NO LONGER DUBIOUS”
Torn between Daniel Dubois’ extra weight and his having thrice been “counted out” in big fights, Dubois’ performance tonight was his best yet. And while I thought “ever so” slight betting favorite Wardley would get it going, he never did and loses for the first time at 20-1-1, 19 KOs. Dubois improves to 23-3, 22 KOs.
DAVID MORRELL KO’D BY 20-1 UNDERDOG
Having covered Cuban fighters since the 1992 Olympics, I have found they have a “propensity” to lie about their age. Reportedly, the Olympic champ of ’92 who said he was 32, Joel Casamayor dyed his hair!

So while David Morrell says he’s 28, I’m dubious (my favorite word this weekend) and think he’s fibbing. Appearing on the Dubois-Wardley undercard, this was “supposed” to be a “pushover fight” for the Cuban after Callum Smith was hurt and their April main event in the UK was scratched!
MORRELL FOUGHT LIKE HE’S 40? T
To stay active, he took on ex-Commonwealth champion Zak Chelli (17-3-1, 9 KOs) who was in shape and determined. Dropping David in the 10th & final round after the Cuban had a rough round 9, referee Darren Sarginson waved it off @ 2:28! The Cuban drops to 12-2-1, 8 KOs.“
