Like the weather in the Midwest, it’s been a whirlwind of activity around these parts lately. We’ve had severe weather, tornado watches and warnings, forcing us to take shelter in our basement several times during the last several weeks. And post AXPONA (Audio Expo North America), I’ve been busy catching up on several reviews and my AXPO report, as well as contending with the grueling final stretch of the school year as an educator.
AXPONA was a blast, and it was nice to get to meet up with some people – both new and old acquaintances. No doubt, you’ll hear more about it in the near future.
The Platanus Rose phono cartridge, attached to my Korf Audio HS-A02 Ceramic Headshell on the GrooveMaster 3 Tonearm, plays beautiful music on the Dr. Feickert Analogue Woodpecker turntable that I plan on buying soon.
During weekday evenings when I’m not binge-watching a serial with Belle or catching up on work or writing assignments, I’ve enjoyed listening to a little vinyl on the Dr. Feickert Analogue Woodpecker (you can find my review by Googling my name and Dr. Feickert Analogue Woodpecker), currently using the Platanus Rose phono cartridge that’s in for review.
A Fortuitous Food Find
Belle covered for someone at work this past weekend, and having some leftover chips, salsa, and guacamole from a burrito takeout lunch after Sunday’s church service, I had an ephipany: Why not order a couple of large chiles from Wendy’s, bring them home, and use them in a homemade nachos plate for two? I poured the chips into a large soup bowl, generously sprinkled Chihuahua cheese on top, poured one large Wendy’s chili on it, covered it with a paper towel, and heated it in our microwave for three minutes. I grabbed a couple of colorful tapas plates, poured the guacamole and salsa into smaller relish cups, and dinner was served!
“This is delicious,” Belle raved. She liked it so much, she mentioned it again the next morning. Good to know!
Mixing It Up
Although I’ve cut back to about once a month, I’m still running the soundboard at church, which is a fun way to serve and cross-pollinate two mutually beneficial interests of mine — the world of audiophiles and serving in live, church sound. The two pursuits also inform each other, which is nice.
Looking Ahead
The other aforementioned projects aside, I am finishing up a review of an Acoustic Sounds reissue of Organ Grinder Swing: The Incredible Jimmy Smith, and will be working up two other Acoustic Sounds reissues in the near future. Additionally, I’ve got a review of an Audio Creative tonearm mount clamp and an Audio Art Cables phono cable. It will be nice to have those finished. Great stuff!
